Description
El Salvador is a prophetic people that made Óscar Arnulfo Romero, bishop and father of the poor, say: "I feel that the people are my prophet" (July 8, 1979). His voice resonated loud and clear, in the name of God, to stop violence, hatred and death in El Salvador. He himself, so close to suffering, was converted by his people to go through a process of faith that helped him to be a Pastor in particularly torturous years for the most humble. When the hatred of the powerful sowed violence and death, crucifying thousands of artisans of peace and justice, Monsignor Óscar Romero decisively led the Church of El Salvador towards the option for the poor, a demanding path of holiness that saw him suffer the same reality as his people: martyrdom.
