Description
The title “A new way of being Church is possible and urgent” is born from a strong conviction: there is nothing that cannot be changed, nor any death that cannot be transformed into life. This is what the author himself says, José María Arnaiz, a Spanish Marianist priest living in Chile, former general secretary of the Union of Superiors General. In his opinion, this new way of being Church basically corresponds to “a synodal, prophetic, hopeful Church converted to Jesus Christ.” And that is what he intends with this book: to offer elements and clues for reflection, tools and suggestions to motivate the start of a process that significantly leads to the renewal of a Church that is increasingly evangelical and evangelizing. In other words: a Church that fixes its eyes on Jesus and on his Gospel with the conviction that it has to take care of the poor. The changes that this implies are of “wine” and of “wineskins,” and both have to be new, different, and facilitate a closeness to the people of God. "It is about living differently, resisting the idea of things remaining the same, refusing to continue doing everything as always." "I would dare to classify this book," says Monsignor Santiago Silva, president of the Chilean Episcopal Conference, in the prologue. "It is urgent to launch a 'new roadmap' based on the encounter with the Risen One. Only the encounter with him brings about substantial changes in life and in the structures that support Christian and ecclesial life."
