Description
The interest in the philosophical work of Father Francisco Suárez, of the Society of Jesus, is more alive than ever today. It is not limited only to Spanish scholars, but extends to other countries (such as the USA, France, Germany, Italy, etc.) where studies on Suárez's philosophy have acquired a notable relevance. The reason for this interest is the growing awareness of the modernity of his philosophy, certified by the reception of some or a few of his ideas in the thought of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Wolff, Kant, Hegel, and even of current phenomenology, such as Zubiri and Heidegger. The book consists of a historical and systematic presentation of Suárez's philosophy, contained fundamentally in the Metaphysical Disputations, which were the first work that, as a systematic elaboration of metaphysics, already abandoned the form, usual until then, of the commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics. Initially conceived as a pamphlet on preliminary philosophy regarding Christology, the Metaphysical Disputations would end up being a monumental work in the history of thought.
