Description
Description
Second revised and corrected edition, promoted by the Spanish Episcopal Conference. The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) soon became a symbol of the global renewal of the Church. Inaugurated under the prophetic impulse of John XXIII and brought to a close by Paul VI, more than 2,500 Council Fathers participated in its work. The breadth of the topics covered is astonishing: the reform of the liturgy, modern means of communication, the Church and its mission in the modern world, divine revelation and the Word of God, the Eastern Catholic Churches, relations between Jews and Christians, religious freedom, the role of the laity in the Church, the ministry and life of priests, their theological and spiritual formation, the renewal of religious life, the pastoral task of bishops. Both pontiffs had a decisive influence on the resolutions of this council, especially concerned with promoting the encounter of separated Christian churches and dialogue with other religions.
