School-based technical-vocational training

The main purpose of this publication is to contribute to the qualitative improvement of secondary technical-vocational education and the consequent effectiveness of this type of education that is taught in schools in Chile and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its content is the product of the author's academic activity, especially in the conduct of research and analysis of expert knowledge emanating from specialists and national authorities focused on education in general and technical-vocational education in particular. The book contains the history of ETP in Chile from the 18th century to the present, theoretical foundations of this type of teaching and the level of effectiveness it has had, especially in Chile, in terms of the incorporation of graduates into the world of work or their continuation of studies in higher education. Potential causes of lack of effectiveness are identified and proposals for policies and strategies are put forward to improve it, raising the level of relevance and depth of the programs and content taught in schools in the sector. Proposals are included regarding the governance of the establishment and other internal and external situations that affect the quality of teaching and, therefore, the academic and personal development of students.
