Description
The Understanding the Word series attempts to explain, comment on and bring closer to the faithful the biblical text that they hear in the liturgy and read personally or in a group. Its purpose is both deeply pastoral and scientific. That is to say, these are commentaries that start from a serious study of the text and its variants, of the meanings of the words, of the historical and religious context, of the underlying anthropological and theological conceptions. From there, each particular commentary attempts to show the Christian faithful in simple language the meaning of the text and its permanent value in nourishing the life of faith. Santiago Ausín Olmos (Salas de los Infantes, Burgos 1939), professor emeritus of the University of Navarra, has a doctorate in Biblical Theology from the same university; a degree in Semitic Philology from the Complutense University and a degree in Hebrew from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is the author of books and articles related to the Prophets and the Qumran documents. Among others, Saint Thomas, "Magister in Sacra Pagina" (1977); Morality and Conduct in Qumran (1991); (ed.) From Ruin to Affirmation. The Environment of the Northern Kingdom in the 8th Century BC (1997); Saint John Chrysostom. The Praise of Saint Paul (2009).
