Description

This book covers the activities of Taller 99 since its creation in 1956, a landmark work by Nemesio Antúnez, who aimed to share with the artists who had already trained the main knowledge acquired in France and to delve deeper into the different techniques of engraving. Over time, the teachings of the workshop expanded to cover all the techniques of engraving and different experiments by the artists, since Antúnez had the good idea of creating his workshop with an integrative perspective, in which the most varied styles and production techniques that maintained a connection with engraving were welcomed. In this way, a versatile artistic scene was able to be configured. On the other hand, through teaching at the School of Art of the Catholic University, the workshop influenced the training of generations of students in the area of printing, developed new methodological strategies for the transmission of knowledge in the area, and contributed significantly to the profile of this new school. The influence of Taller 99 was also decisive in the recognition of engraving as a specialty option on a par with painting and sculpture, and it placed Chilean engraving on the international stage opened by the engraving biennials. In the context of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Taller 99 de Grabado, the authors address the task of reconstructing its history based on the testimonies of many of its founders, artists who have passed through it and current members, aware of the urgency of rescuing a past that could be forgotten and that is part of the memory of Chilean art.
