                      Description
At the time of his sudden death, Ricardo Capponi, a surgeon and psychiatrist, was preparing a book about the crisis of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. A first version of this book, which the author hoped to expand and improve with comments from his first readers, was published in a limited edition under the title The Current Mission of the Catholic Church. A Proposal to Face the Crisis. Considering its inestimable value in understanding the crisis taking into account modern findings in the sciences of affectivity, his family, together with the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, completed the work by incorporating the notes and clarifications left by the author. Capponi interprets the crisis of the Church from the perspective of psychopathology and proposes an institutional itinerary oriented toward the possibility of reparation. It is the duty of the Church, which is essentially constituted by the proclamation and teaching of the truth, to incorporate into its bosom everything that is discovered to be true and, in a particular way, the findings of science and human knowledge that improve our understanding of the world we inhabit.
