We do not have to leave life to be a Christian. On the contrary, we have to live it in the best way. We become sanctified in our daily life: like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, like Sister Clare Crockett and Gianna Beretta Molla, as fathers and mothers of families, as sons and daughters, as priests or nuns, as workers or professionals. In our family and social life, in our work, in our little world. That is where we have to seek and find God. In the "daily" of every day. In what we have been given. Even if it seems grey and monotonous. Because joy and colour are inside and not outside of events and things. Saint Teresa of Avila said, with a bit of humour: "God walks among the pots." And it is no coincidence that Carlo chose Assisi (the land of St. Francis) as his final resting place in this world. Because both have much in common: as laymen, they sought the path of personal improvement and only found it when they met Jesus, and each in their own time and with the elements they had, they made him known to the world. Hopefully, these life stories will serve as models to know that holiness is possible at any time and place.
