Clare of Assisi

“Shortly after Francis’ conversion, together with some sisters whom the Lord had given me after my own conversion, I voluntarily promised obedience to him… and, moved by piety, Francis obliged himself to have, for himself and through his religion, diligent care and special concern for us as well as for his brothers. And so, where the Lord multiplied us from San Damiano to dwell there, where the Lord multiplied us in a short time, by his mercy and grace.” This is how Clare remembers the origin of the Second Franciscan Order, whose eighth centenary of the Second Franciscan Order was celebrated in 2012. In this volume the author, a renowned Franciscan scholar, reconstructs Clare’s life and her struggle for fidelity to Francis and to the common inspiration.
