The Evil

The reader has in his hands the first volume of the series God for Thought, an extensive and suggestive dogmatic work elaborated by Adolphe Gesché. If Gesché had been a classical author, he would have begun his theological reflection by addressing one of these three questions: nature, man or God. However, being a contemporary intellectual, he could not avoid the scandalous question that evil provokes in the man of today, an authentic touchstone and enigma that must be illuminated coherently in order to be able to speak of the rest of the essential questions. Five chapters present as many perspectives on this perennial theme: 1. Topics on the question of evil; 2. God in the enigma of evil; 3. Original sin and guilt in the West; 4. Theologies that offer liberation to man and evil; 5. The challenge that evil poses for reflection on God (theodicy).
