The power of listening

Discernment concerns us all, because choices are an essential part of life. Every day we make acts of discernment: in what we eat or read, at work, in relationships, in everything. The Pope says that discernment is an art that can be learned and that has its own rules. Above all, it is a gift from God that we must always ask for, and never presume to be experts and self-sufficient. To discern we must learn to listen to our heart: to know what is happening, what decision to make, to give an opinion, to make good decisions. The Virgin Mary is a teacher of discernment: she speaks little, listens a lot and keeps it in her heart. These new catecheses by Pope Francis, paraphrased with the introductions by Sonia Vargas Andrade, are a practical and simple help to learn to discern personally and together, in synodality.
