Description
Description
The World Health Organization states that suicide is any act by which an individual causes injury or harm to himself, regardless of the degree of lethal intent or knowledge of the true motive. With this notion, somewhat broader than the traditional one, it could be argued that all acts that have some link with self-destruction have, at the very least, suicidal characteristics. “Unfortunately, in this consumerist, competitive and accelerated society, the concept of risk and danger is blurred and becomes ambiguous; for example, smoking, drinking or driving in an excessive manner do not fall within the variable 'danger of death'.” Affective life has become more unstable and superficial, the temporality of love is increasingly maintained and it is seen as a mere feeling. This work aims, then, to provide a reflection on a set of new customs, endowed with an excessive and unnecessary dose of danger, which have arisen in contemporary society: it is about the devaluation of one's own life, both personal and that of others.
