Who was - and is! - Joseph Ratzinger really? A man with clear eyes and a deep gaze. An intelligent Bavarian. A renowned professor and lecturer. A priest on fire. The theologian of the 20th century. The guardian of the Faith with Saint John Paul II. A grey smoke at 78 years old. A pope who was "a humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord." A perfect target with a black caption: "German shepherd," "grand inquisitor," "God's Rottweiler"... A model of bad press. The most modern resignation in a forward-looking pontificate. The open door to Francis. The emeritus. A soft and intense light for the world that, as of December 31, 2022, has become more eternal. Emeritus. Rewinding Ratzinger is a human portrait of Benedict XVI made with the technique of journalistic collage. On the blank canvas of an entire life, the author uses traces of interviews, chronicles, analyses, quotes from biographies, texts by Joseph Ratzinger himself, press clippings, fictional stories and photographs to draw, with impressionist brushstrokes, the face of the pope of truth in the beginnings of post-truth.
