Description
Along with the new studies on the historical Jesus, a new figure of John the Baptist has come to light. This extraordinary prophet, the “greatest born of a woman” (Mt 11:11), always remained overshadowed by Jesus, due to the role of “precursor” attributed to him by the Gospels. However, little by little, he emerged before critics and readers of the Bible as an imposing preacher, a formidable spiritual guide, a teacher of prayer and a brilliant catechist. Evangelists often raise many questions related to his figure, his relationship with Jesus, with history, with the message of the Word of God… which are not always properly elucidated. This book attempts to clarify some of these questions, among others: What was his childhood like? Why did he preach in the desert? Did he announce the arrival of the end of the world? Did he baptize Jesus? Where was he beheaded and by whom? ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ariel Álvarez Valdés holds a degree in Biblical Theology from the Franciscan Biblical Faculty of Jerusalem (Israel) and a PhD in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca (Spain). For several years, he has been dedicated to the popular dissemination of scientific research into the Bible, through writings and conferences in Argentina and abroad. Among his published works are: “Enigmas de la Biblia”, “¿Puede la Virgen María visto?”, “¿Does God test us with suffering?”, “¿Does the Bible always tell the truth?”, “Enigmas de la vida de San Pablo” and “Enigmas de la pasión de Jesús”.
