Description
PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN (1881-1955), French Jesuit, theologian and scientist, was renowned for his pioneering field work in palaeontology. His prophetic essays on the reconciliation of faith and the theory of evolution aroused the suspicions of the Vatican, and he was forbidden to publish any writings on religious subjects during his lifetime. After his death, the publication of his numerous books established him as one of the most influential Catholic thinkers of the twentieth century: a mystic whose holistic vision speaks with increasing relevance to contemporary spirituality. Teilhard's writings, often said to be ahead of his time, are a testament to the importance of the work of the French philosopher, theologian, and philosopher.
