Story of a Soul

The light that Therese gives us is that of the "little spiritual path." Therese's little path is a great path that leads to God. The "spiritual childhood" that she proposes to us is a very adult way of identifying with Christ. Therese teaches us that holiness is not achieved exclusively by the practice of virtues, nor by the constant search for special mortifications or strong physical disciplines. What is typically Christian is to let oneself be loved by Christ as part of the Church; it is to remain united to him, it is to live from the riches that the Holy Spirit gives to his Church and to each believer.
