Description
Jesus, Master within is the new project of José Antonio Pagola. With this new series, the renowned Basque priest and theologian seeks to recover Jesus as the “inner Master who, with the strength of his spirit and his Gospel, encourages, calls, challenges and guides those who follow him. To do so, he sets himself the goal of promoting two specific objectives, which enrich and complement each other: the inner renewal of Christianity as it is ordinarily lived in our days, and the need to revive, in these times, the true spirituality of Jesus. A spirituality that must be nourished by a personal relationship with God lived as Father-Mother based on absolute trust and openness to a humanized project. In this work that occupies several volumes, Pagola proposes a process of prayerful reading of the Gospel, which, to be fruitful, must follow a series of steps: first, we must begin by awakening in ourselves the attitude of search, essential for an encounter. Then, we must welcome the spirit of Jesus, who is the one who will shape us. Later, we must listen to Jesus as our Master within us, in order to hear words of life from his lips. And finally, we must open ourselves to the mystery of God in the secret of our hearts, so that he may take possession of them. The first volume (Jesus, Master within. 1 introduction) presents some topics that can help us to better understand the prayerful reading of the Gospel and prepare us to practice it effectively. This second volume begins the journey of prayerful reading. The book contains a whole series of guidelines and suggestions for practicing the prayerful reading of the Gospel: from how to prepare, care for and set the mood of the place; to a script for the meeting guide, the indication of which Gospel text to work on at each moment, meditation, thanksgiving. Pagola wants to put the Gospel in the hands of the laity so that they can know it and live it in the first person, and contribute to consolidating and facilitating the pastoral action of the parishes.
