Saint Benedict

He was first a hermit, living alone in a cave. Later, with a group of young men, he built the first monastery in Monte Cassino and wrote the Rule, the dissemination of which earned him the title of Patriarch of Western Monasticism. He is called the Father of Europe. Founder of the Benedictine Monasteries and well known for the motto: “Pray and work.”
