Description
Large format book with illustrations of Benedictine Art. Benedict of Nursia, known as Saint Benedict (Nursia, 480 Montecasino, 547, Italy). He founded the Benedictine order, which consisted of monasteries becoming self-sufficient sites organized around a basilica-shaped church and a cloister; he is considered the patron saint of Europe and the patriarch of Western monasticism. Benedict wrote a Rule for his monks that was called "The Holy Rule" and which has been the inspiration for the regulations of many other religious communities. His feast day is celebrated on July 11.
