Description
Maximilian Kolbe is not only a saint but also a universal symbol of the spirit of sacrifice and human solidarity. After entering the Franciscan order, Kolbe became the editor of several pastoral publications and founded the so-called "City of the Immaculate" near Warsaw. His apostolic activities aroused the suspicion of the German authorities and Kolbe was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1941. There, in an act of extreme love, Kolbe sacrificed his life to save a father condemned to death. The life of this saint is not only an exemplary biography, but a message of hope. In the words of John Paul II, Kolbe has become a "sign of the new era: the civilization of love."
