Rerum Novarum, the social encyclical of Leo XIII

Habemus Papam

Habemus Papam

Chile San Pablo |

Father José Antonio Atucha.

Dear friends, the Church is celebrating. God has sent us a new successor to Saint Peter. Our Holy Father Leo XIV.

The arrival of a new Pope is a great opportunity to rediscover the importance of the Holy Father's teachings, both oral and written. Let us ask ourselves: When was the last time we read and studied a writing by a Pope? His documents indoctrinate us and help illuminate our lives; therefore, it is our responsibility to know them and try to bring them to life. A Catholic must be a lover of the Church's doctrine and teachings. And in this sense, the Popes are its first interpreters and propagators.

Likewise, the opinions of the Roman Pontiff have a very important doctrinal and moral value. For this reason, they should be received and studied with respect and veneration. In them, we find new insights, ideas, proposals, and challenges. They are probably the same old topics, but when presented in a contemporary way and in a language more accessible to all, they gain significance and relevance for our human and spiritual growth.

Therefore, it is always appropriate to reflect on the teachings of the Popes, in schools, parishes, Christian communities, and of course, in the family. Today, more than ever, it is necessary to open a healthy debate and confrontation of ideas and challenges that these writings present to us.

At the same time, pray daily for Pope Leo XIV, so that the Holy Spirit may enlighten and sustain him. Entrust him to the special care of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May she accompany and encourage him in his great mission.

Many concerns and challenges weigh on the Pope's shoulders: wars, injustice, poverty, de-Christianization, and so many others. Therefore, if you can offer your sacrifices and sufferings for a few days, Holy Communion and the Rosary for the health and intentions of Leo XIV will be an immense gift for your good and the good of the Church.

With the same appreciation and affection as always.
